About Mixed Media Space 

Mixed Media Space is a newly opened contemporary art venue located in downtown North Adams, Massachusetts, just a 10-minute walk from MASS MoCA. Housed in a remodeled 1890s mill building, the gallery offers 2,200 square feet of exhibition space with 14-foot ceilings, providing an ideal setting for ambitious, immersive installations.

With a commitment to world-class curatorial standards, Mixed Media Space positions itself as an independent international platform for contemporary art. By presenting work from emerging and established artists across disciplines and geographies, Mixed Media Space engages in both local and global conversations. While contributing to the growing cultural energy of the Berkshires, the space also embraces its seemingly remote, pastoral setting as an asset—offering a focused, undistracted environment protected by the natural landscape. Mixed Media Space maintains a curatorial and production base in New York City as well, which serves as a vital channel for international exchange and global cultural influx. This unique context supports the creation of globally ambitious yet locally conscious artistic experiences, strategies, and dialogues.

While our curatorial team evolves with each exhibition, our values remain constant. Mixed Media Space was founded in response to a global cultural climate shaped by hierarchical power structures, politicized agendas, and delegated institutional art —alongside a saturation of décor, commerce, and positioning. In contrast, we aim to cultivate an autonomous platform that empowers artists to act through visual and tactile agency first. We bring that work to audiences directly and unfiltered.

We are committed to presenting work that is visually complex and abstract as opposed to propagandist messaging—and when representation is present, we seek art that poses deep, open-ended questions rather than directing what to think. As we look ahead, Mixed Media Space will continue to champion visual art that is independently driven, universally resonant, and reflective in the fullest sense—encouraging both artists and audiences to slow down, sense deeply, and think and see critically and freely.
